Equipping undergraduate history students and recent graduates with mentorship, research support, skill development, and visibility.

The Young Historians Initiative for Historical Education was founded on January 10, 2026, in response to the growing disconnect between historical education and professional development opportunities available to young historians in Nigeria.
Many history students complete their studies with limited exposure to mentorship, research skills, publication opportunities, and career pathways within and beyond the discipline. YHIHE was created to address this gap.
To bridge the gap between studying history and building a meaningful career by equipping undergraduates and recent graduates with academic mentorship, research skill development, and programmes that contribute to their career and professional growth.
To build a community where no young historian in Nigeria feels overlooked, underprepared, or unseen in their academic and professional journey.
YHIHE is one of the few organisations in Nigeria dedicated specifically to the academic and professional development of young historians focusing on mentorship, research support, publication support, and professional guidance that many students need but rarely receive.
We promote rigorous research, critical thinking, and academic excellence among young historians.
We believe that guidance and support are essential for academic and professional growth.
We encourage continuous learning beyond the classroom through practical engagement.
We uphold honesty, accountability, and ethical conduct in all our activities.
We believe historical knowledge should be used to contribute positively to society.

"History is the fuel for future innovation."

Founded by Ngozi Gift Romanus, a First-Class graduate of History and International Studies from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, this initiative responds to a clear gap in the discipline.
Our organization was established to support undergraduate historians and recent graduates who feel overlooked or underprepared for life beyond the classroom. We are changing the narrative from history as “impractical” to history as a professional powerhouse.
