About this Programme
The YHIHE Library Project was inspired by a simple observation made by our founder, Ngozi Gift Romanus. While postgraduate historians often have greater access to opportunities within the discipline, undergraduate students and recent graduates are frequently left out or have only limited access to such opportunities.
To address this gap, Ngozi Gift Romanus wrote Dear Young Historians, a book that explores some of the common challenges faced by young historians. Through five chapters, the book discusses the realities of studying history in Nigeria, the importance of skill development, African historiography, digital visibility, and scholarship opportunities available to history students and graduates.
Recognising the need to make these conversations accessible to more students, our organisation launched a book donation project aimed at placing copies of the book in history departmental libraries across universities in Nigeria.
Impact Story
Copies of Dear Young Historians have been donated to the Department of History libraries of:
Federal University Oye-Ekiti
Ekiti State University
Tai Solarin Federal University of Education
Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State
Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State
Through these donations, students in these universities can access practical guidance that is rarely available within the formal curriculum.
