About this Programme
History is often dismissed as a discipline concerned only with the past, but many of Nigeria's most pressing challenges have historical roots. Understanding those roots is essential for developing informed responses to contemporary problems.
The Young Historians Undergraduate History Competition was created to demonstrate the continued relevance of historical scholarship. The competition provides undergraduate history students with an opportunity to apply historical methods to issues affecting contemporary society.
Participants examine modern challenges through historical analysis and develop research-based arguments that deepen society's understanding of contemporary issues in Nigeria.
The competition operates in multiple stages, including abstract submission, shortlisting, full paper development, review by academic assessors, and presentation of finalist papers at a symposium.
